If you just purchased a new 6 volt power adapter and it doesn't fit here is why...
The Roady / Roady2 and SKYFi and SKYFi2 are some of the best receivers that XM Radio made. they have strong FM transmitters and seem to last a long time. If you own one you know how hard it can be to find replacement parts. Since they are 6 volt receivers they do not work with the newer 5 volt accessories such as docks, cradles, and power adapters. So the hunting down the accessories can be a challenge.
Thankfully we have many of the 6 volt XM Radio power adapters and parts for these receivers.
The Problem
But one issue that has been sticking around since they came out is the fact that the connector tip on the power adapter melts and comes dislodged from the connector. When this happens the connector typically gets stuck down inside the power port on the Receiver on the Roady and Roady2 and inside the power port on the dock of the SKYFi and SKYFi2. This is a widely known issue that we have seen occur thousands of times over the years.
Below is an example of a power adapter in which the tip has been removed and a picture showing the tip on the end of the connector. Please note that the connector comes in various colors including black, white, yellow and red.
What to do?
If you find yourself in this situation there are several things you can do
- Purchase a new receiver - if you want to replace your receiver with the same type then you may want to check out eBay and see if someone is selling their used one. You can sometimes find new ones on eBay as well.
- Take the cradle or receiver apart - It is a tricky process but you can take the receiver apart and manually remove the plastic piece. Just be careful...
- Remove the tip on the new one - we have had customers remove the tip on the new power adapter which allows it to be pushed down over the plastic piece that is stuck down in the power port. This works on most occasions but if done it will void your warranty with the power adapter.
